Success for WODAC!RTD
Although Christmas is a special time for most of us, sadly it can be a very lonely time for others. In Warrington alone, there are thousands of homeless people every year. Therefore, the local community do all they can to help out.
WODAC opens over the festive period to offer a warm and welcoming environment for the homeless. The charity provides them with food and drink, clothing, and somebody to talk to. It’s an entirely non-profit charity and is built and run by volunteers. These people selflessly give up their time around Christmas to help those less fortunate than themselves.
This year, there was a great turnout in both volunteers and the homeless. So many of the local community were eager to help out that the charity even ended up with too many volunteers for Christmas Day due to people thinking this is when help would be needed most. As such a large amount of people were offering to donate their time, WODAC had plenty of volunteers to cover the whole time it was running.
The project has lots of tasks that need to be carried out on a daily basis. However, this Christmas, a selection of new activities were available. This varied from areas where people could get their hair and nails done, to a Nintendo Wii being set up for attendees to play on. All of these things made it a more enjoyable and fun experience for everyone at WODAC.
During the build up to Christmas, RTD acted as a drop off point for people to donate items to the charity. This meant that we could collect the things they required most and deliver them to the church just a few days before it opened. Members of our team also gave up some of their time over Christmas to volunteer. They found it to be a very rewarding experience.
WODAC is great charity. It allows people from Warrington to get together and offer help to those who need it most. We’re glad to see that it remains successful and look forward to helping out again next year!
